Lavaca Public Schools participate in the Arkansas Public School Choice Act 560 of 2015. We are now accepting applications for students who desire to participate in the School Choice Program.
In accordance with Act 490 of 2021, the window period for applicant filing and school districts accepting School Choice applications for the 2025-2026 School Year begins on January 1, 2025 and runs through May 1, 2025.
Any parent residing outside the Lavaca School District, who wishes to send their child to Lavaca Schools, beginning with the 2025-2026 School Year, may obtain an application from the Central Administration Office located at 203 Fir Street, Lavaca, AR. You may also obtain an application online at dese.ade.arkansas.gov/ under the School Choice tab.
Applications for the 2025-2026 School Year must be received on/or postmarked no later than May 1, 2025 to be considered eligible for the upcoming school year. Applicants must submit School Choice applications to the nonresident district which will notify the resident district.
Parents are encouraged to have applications submitted as soon as possible, as assignments will be made on the basis of space availability. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance or rejection by July 1, 2025.

If your student already attends our district on School Choice, there is no need to apply again, unless the enrollment has been broken.

Our 5th grade students had an exciting and educational field trip downtown!
They started the day at First National Bank in Fort Smith, where they learned about the bank’s history, explored the vault and safety deposit boxes, and even got a lesson on spotting counterfeit money.
Next, they toured the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, where they discovered all the campus has to offer—from classes and clubs to science and math buildings—getting a glimpse into college life!
To wrap up the day, they enjoyed lunch and some fun in the sun at Ben Geren Park.

Atlas Testing is Complete!
What a way to celebrate—our amazing friends at 1st Baptist Lavaca truly spoiled us today! LMS teachers were surprised with delicious cookies and coffee, and our students were treated to popsicles, ice cream sandwiches, bubbles, and lots of smiles during recess.
We’re so grateful for their kindness and support—what a blessing they are to our school!
We also wore green today in support of one of our LMS families.
We love our students, their families, and our amazing community!

Reminder:

Mr. LeBrun’s outdoor recreation class just finished up their Arkansas boater’s education course. All students can now legally operate a boat on Arkansas waters when accompanied by an adult. 🚤

A big thank you to Shaw nee Tichenor from our Sebastian County local extension office for leading a fun and relaxing yoga activity during our Lavaca AfterSchool program yesterday! Our students loved stretching, breathing, and learning new ways to stay active and mindful. 🌟🧘♂️

Students in Mrs. Dewey's class learned how to tie a tie today after testing. 👔

Upcoming dates:

Atlas Testing is next week at LMS! Students in art classes have been working on motivational posters to encourage everyone to do their best!

Yesterday, 6th graders became the critics! Armed with a rubric and nearly a year’s worth of knowledge, they evaluated real explanatory essays and conversed like scholars!

Last Friday, our middle school students had the opportunity to hear from guest speaker, Ashleigh Smith, Registered Dietitian, from Arkansas Colleges of Health Education. She talked to students about the dangers of energy drinks. She explained how high levels of caffeine and sugar can affect focus, sleep, and overall health—especially in growing teens. A huge thank you for helping our students make healthier choices! 🫶

Today, two 6th grade teams proudly represented LMS at the Battle of the Books Tournament, competing against other area schools. We’re so proud of their hard work, teamwork, and love for reading! Great job, students!

Upcoming dates:

LMS Parents & Guardians,
Let’s finish the school year strong! Please join us in encouraging our students to stay focused and do their best on their classwork and the upcoming ATLAS test.
Let's Go, Arrows! 🏹
