Library Media Center
The LHS Library Media Center is located in the back corner of the Lavaca High School building. Our media center maintains a large collection of books, periodicals, and media materials that are intentionally selected to supplement the curricular needs and interests of our students and teachers.
The center is fully automated with a 30 computers available for student use. These computers are located in the computer lab located inside the main library. These computers have access to an electronic card catalog (OPAC) which helps patrons identify and locate resources. These computers also have access to the Internet and other electronic resources (OPAC LINKS). For additional information or assistance, contact Shannon Todaro, Library Media Specialist (shannon.todaro@lavacaschools.com).
Circulation Information
The library collection is arranged by the Dewey Decimal System (Dewey Decimal Info). Books may be checked out for two weeks and may be renewed if needed. If books are not turned in or renewed after the two week time, fines in the amount of $0.05 a day (weekends not included) will be assessed to the patron. This will cap out at $5.00 and start over when the book is checked in. Periodicals and reference materials may not be checked out, without permission, but may be used in the library media center.
Parent Resource Center
The Parent Resource Center is located in the back of the media center. Brochures, pamphlets, and media center books (both print and digital eBooks) are available to help meet the many needs of parents and their students. Also available is a computer with Internet access to help those who may not have it available at home. Parents may visit the Parent Resource Center any time during the school day. To visit after hours, please contact the school office to make an appointment. Once you arrive, you will check in through the office.
eBooks can be accessed through the Internet on a computer, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Kindle Fire HD or Nook HD at Destiny Discover. In order to checkout and read the books onto a smartphone or other handheld device, the Follett BryteWave K-12 edition app must be downloaded. The app is free and can be downloaded at the iTunes App store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod users or at Google Play for Android users. It is not necessary to download the app when checking out and reading from a laptop or desktop computer. A username and password must be assigned whether accessing eBook resources online or using an eBook reader device. To obtain a username and password, please email Ms. Todaro at shannon.todaro@lavacaschools.com.
